After years of using private planes on a budget, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal invested $27 million in a Bombardier Challenger 650.
The exterior of the private aircraft is white, but the luxurious interior boasts cream leather seats and elegant wood accents.
It can accommodate 12 passengers and has a range of 4,000 nautical miles. The tail of the plane features a custom design showcasing Shaq’s Dunkman logo.
In a 2010 interview, O’Neal expressed doubts about ever owning a private plane.
“I’m not hearing that at all,” he told Jetset magazine, voicing his concerns about the maintenance involved.
“I want to keep track of whatever money I’ve invested,” he added.
“I don’t want to be taken advantage of in a bad deal. I know it has happened to other guys.”
Despite his estimated net worth of $400 million, O’Neal stated he wasn’t interested in buying a private plane to flaunt his wealth to fellow athletes.
“Yes, some guys do,” he said. “But that’s not me. I’m just a regular guy like you.”
Fans of the 340-pound, seven-foot-one basketball star have raised concerns that the jet’s seats might be too cramped for his comfort.
“Big Shaq, you need a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner with extra legroom,” one follower joked, noting the plane’s limited space.
“Shaq doesn’t fit in there. We need an Airbus A380,” another fan commented.
Recently, another NBA legend, Michael Jordan, traveled to Europe in his own $61 million Gulfstream private jet.
