Floof balls flitting amid the trees on Japan’s second-largest island are a common sight.

 

 

In Japanese, these unusual birds are called Shima enaga, which means long-tailed tιt.

 

Why are these long tail tιttιes different from the rest? To begin with, their size is little; they are just 13–15 cm long (and that just includes the tail)!

 

 

While long-tailed tιts in Hokkaido often keep their black eyebrows throughout adulthood, this is not the case there.picture” It’s a one-eye phenomenon that turns them into miniature snowmen with a blanched visage.They are able to endure the island’s lengthy winters undetected thanks to their entirely white visage.image” These little cotton balls usually move in flocks of around 20-30 and even perform cool acrobatic tricks while fluttering around.

Although they are particularly susceptible to cold winters, their young are able to survive because of the vast number of eggs females deposit, which serves to maintain a strong population.

Even while the long-tailed tιt is common all the way from Western Europe to Japan, the one found in Hokkaido is truly unusual.
