The Cerulean Kingfisher (*Alcedo coerulescens*) is a small, strikingly blue bird native to Southeast Asia, particularly found in Indonesia and the Philippines. Its vibrant cerulean-blue plumage, contrasted by a white throat and underbelly, makes it a visually striking species. This kingfisher prefers habitats near slow-moving streams, rivers, and mangroves, where it hunts for fish, crustaceans, and small invertebrates.

Despite being a kingfisher, the Cerulean Kingfisher doesn’t dive as dramatically as other species. Instead, it hovers briefly before swooping down to snatch its prey just below the water’s surface. Known for its solitary nature, it perches quietly for long periods, waiting for the perfect moment to catch its next meal.

This species faces some threat due to habitat loss, particularly in coastal mangrove areas, but is currently listed as a species of Least Concern.
