Ex-Metallica member Jason Newsted successfully sold his sprawling ranch just 1 day notification
Former Metallica member Jason Newsted recently finalized the sale of his expansive property, the Rockin’ JN Ranch in Sula, Montana, for a hefty sum of $4.95 million.
The property, spanning 540 acres, was listed on the real estate website Trulia in March and quickly garnered interest, with a contract pending on the same day. However, the sale was not completed until June 7, and the final closing price has not been disclosed. Nevertheless, a collection of photos showcasing the ranch provides a glimpse into the luxurious timber-frame house, guest accommodations, additional apartments, and various amenities nestled within the picturesque landscape.
The primary residence, boasting 5,812 square feet of living space, features three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a furnished basement with a cozy wood-burning fireplace. Adjacent to the house, a two-car garage and spacious porch add to the property’s allure.
Perhaps the most appealing aspect of the Rockin’ JN Ranch is the serene environment it offers amidst Montana’s scenic rolling hills, providing ample peace and tranquility.
This isn’t Newsted’s first significant real estate transaction; in 2019, he sold his Walnut Creek, California home for $2.89 million.
Since departing from Metallica in 2001, Newsted has pursued other musical endeavors, including his Chophouse Band. He has recently expressed that he no longer possesses the physicality required for Metallica’s demanding songs. In May, when fans speculated about his potential return to the metal scene following former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson’s departure, Newsted’s wife, Nicole, dismissed the idea.
Situated near Sula, the Rockin JN Ranch boasts 540 acres of rolling grasslands, pine stands, mountain vistas, and ponds, offering prime habitat for elk, deer, and bighorn sheep. Surrounded by State and National Forest on three sides, the custom-built 5,812 square-foot timber-frame home sits atop a ridge, affording sweeping views of the foothills. The property is ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, horseback riding, and wildlife observation, with the added benefit of end-of-the-road privacy.
The ranch features a chef’s kitchen equipped with premium stainless steel appliances, while a grand stone Rumsford-style fireplace serves as the centerpiece of the living room, complemented by exquisite stone and woodwork. Expansive windows offer panoramic views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, with a walkout lower level doubling as an art studio or recreation room, complete with another fireplace. Additionally, a lofted bonus room sits above the master suite.
The property includes a separate three-bedroom manager’s home with a two-bedroom apartment, two shops, and a greenhouse. A shovel-ready building site with installed power, well, and septic systems is also available. The Rockin JN Ranch is conveniently located near the Bitterroot River and Lost Trail Ski Area, with an additional 124 acres of land available for expansion.
In conclusion, Jason Newsted’s recent sale of the Rockin’ JN Ranch marks another significant milestone in his post-Metallica endeavors, as he continues to explore new opportunities beyond the realm of heavy metal music.
