The Spanish giants beat Atalanta 2-0 to win the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday. It will go down in history as a historic night for Real Madrid, the boss, and one key player.

The UEFA Champions League winners played the Serie A team in Warsaw, and it wasn’t until the second half that they were able to break the tie. Right before the hour mark, Federico Valverde put Los Merengues ahead thanks to some amazing magic from Vinicius Junior, who helped the Uruguayan.

Soon after, Real Madrid doubled their lead less than 10 minutes later. Kylian Mbappe scored on his debut after Jude Bellingham, the Ballon d’Or winner and Man of the Match, set him up.

And that was the end of history for the Spanish winners. With five wins, Real Madrid was tied with Barcelona and AC Milan as the most successful club in UEFA Super Cup history going into this game. But with Wednesday’s win, Real Madrid moved ahead of their rivals in Spain and across Europe.

In this game, Ancelotti also made history. With his sixth UEFA Super Cup win, he passed Pep Guardiola as the most successful manager in the competition’s history. He also became Real Madrid’s joint-most successful manager in the club’s history.

Carlo won his 14th title at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, tying Miguel Muñoz as the manager of Real Madrid with the most awards.

In addition, Luka Modric broke a great record when he came on as a replacement before winning the title. He won his 27th title with the Merengues, making him the most decorated player in the club’s history.

All of these achievements are great, but the most important thing to the Spanish giants was the end result. Kylian Mbappe finally joined the team, but Ancelotti had to show that his team could keep winning even though Toni Kroos and Nacho had left.

Now that this game is over, Real Madrid can turn its attention to La Liga. The Spanish top-flight season starts on Thursday. On Sunday, the defending winners play Mallorca in the first game of their title defence.
