£49M is too much for Arsenal to compete with Chelsea for young left-wing striker Nico Williams?

Amidst summer rumors of a possible transfer to the Premier League, the Spanish international has dropped hints about his future.

Despite interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, Athletic Bilbao and Spain forward Nico Williams has stated that he would not be influenced by rumors regarding a potential transfer.

According to reports, both Premier League teams are looking to improve their оffensive capabilities for the upcoming 2024–25 season. Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are aiming to get closer to Manchester City, the current champions, who they narrowly lost to by two points.

The signing of Kai Havertz in the summer was a smart one; the German international provided a significant оffensive boost with 13 goals and seven assists, putting him in third place in goal involvements for the season, behind only the dependable Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard.

While Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea had a less-than-stellar оffensive campaign, 21-year-old sensation Cole Palmer did most of the heavy lifting, tallying 25 goals and 15 assists in all competitions last season. Nicolas Jackson didn’t Һit his stride until the second half of the season.

Conor Gallagher and Malo Gusto led the way in the assist column behind Palmer, with Raheem Sterling being the sole other Chelsea star to score double-digit goals. The Blues have already signed Estevao Willian, who will join Chelsea next summer, and are aiming to complete deals for Marc Guiu, a star for Barcelona, and Omari Kellyman, a teenager for Aston Villa, to bolster their attacking options going forward.

Williams, though, has reportedly attracted a lot of attention from both clubs. Last season, he impressed many of the best teams in Europe with eight goals and nineteen assists across all competitions. Prospective suitors will face a formidable obstacle in trying to persuade the 21-year-old to depart Bilbao, his home since he was a youngster, despite the fact that his contract contains a release clause of £49 million.

Williams has addressed the speculation regarding his future in Spain and said that he will be relying on his older brother Inaki for support when he leads Spain in the current summer European Championships. “[The transfer speculation] is hard to deal with because everyone is constantly asking you what you’re going to do with your future,” he stated while speaking to the Spanish radio station RNE.

I simply want to play football; I’m a young man of 21 years old. Athletic is my home, as I’ve previously stated. My contract renewal was only recently completed. My heart is overjoyed.

“[Inaki] is no stranger to it. Speculation from the outside had his day for him a long time ago. He has been there, done that, and understands the pаin you’re going through.

Arsenal have been linked to several forwards, including Viktor Gyokeres, Ivan Toney, Alexander Isak, and Victor Osimhen. Following RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko’s commitment to another Bundesliga season earlier this month, both sides will likely shift their focus to other options on their radars.
