Metallica’s X Account Allegedly Hacked to Promote Crypto Token

The official X account of Metallica seems to have been compromised, with the hackers using it to promote a Solana token named METAL.

On June 26, a post on the official Metallica X account announced the token, claiming it was launched on the Solana-based token deployer pump.fun in partnership with Ticketmaster. However, Ticketmaster has not released any statements or announcements confirming the legitimacy of this partnership at the time of writing.

Despite a pinned post on Metallica’s X account directing users to the band’s official website, there is no information about the token on the site.

Additionally, the posts from Metallica’s account mentioned a collaboration with the fintech firm MoonPay. MoonPay has not made any public statements about the token and did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside of U.S. business hours.
