Havertz converted the penalty coolly after a red card to a Scottish defender in Germany’s 5-1 win

Kai Havertz put in a phenomenal performance in Germany’s Euro 2024 opener, contributing significantly to a dominant 5-1 victory over Scotland.

Havertz’s Masterclass:

Scored 1 goal from the penalty spot (after sending the goalkeeper the wrong way)Assisted 1 goal for a teammateWon 100% of his contested duels (3/3)Maintained a 100% shot accuracy (2/2)Created 1 scoring chanceDelivered 10 passes into the final third

Scotland were reduced to ten međťš— after a reckless challenge by Ryan Porteous on Ilkay Gundogan in the 18th minute. This resulted in a penalty that Havertz converted confidently, widening the lead for Germany.

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright slammed Porteous’ tackle and believes Havertz deserved to score the penalty.

The remaining Group A match will take place on Saturday between Hungary and Switzerland. With the new tournament format, the top two teams from each group automatically qualify for the knock-out stages, with the four best-performing third-placed teams also progressing to the round of 16.

Following his impressive display, Havertz received a thunderous applause from the German fans as he substituted off the pitch. This marks the most impressive opening performance by any Arsenal player participating in the Euros this year.
