Metallica Frontman James Hetfield, Displays His Million-Dollar SuperCar Collection For Free at the Petersen Automotive Museum

Rock icon and devoted car enthusiast James Hetfield has emerged for his first public appearance since entering rehab last year, showcasing his remarkable car collection at the Petersen Automotive Museum.

Renowned guitar heroes like Jeff Beck and ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons are well-known for their passion for cars, and James Hetfield of Metallica is no exception. Over the past 14 years, Hetfield has curated ten exceptional custom rides, crafted from the remnants of classic Lincolns, Packards, Buicks, and other iconic Detroit automobiles.

Having enjoyed these custom creations, Hetfield has generously turned the entire collection over to the Petersen Automotive Museum for the exhibit titled “Reclaimed Rust: The James Hetfield Collection.”

Making his first public appearance since his rehab stint in September, the Metallica frontman addressed a packed audience at the museum’s pre-opening event, expressing, “They weren’t doing me much good sitting in my garage. I loved looking at them, but I didn’t want to auction them off and have them spread all over the world. This is a collection—it marks my life.”
