Kirk Hammett pride in Tye Trujillo, Robert Trujillo’s son, for successfully performing the solo of Master of Puppets in the television series Stranger Things
Kirk Hammett of Metallica expressed pride in Tye Trujillo, the 17-year-old son of Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, for his contribution to the rendition of Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” featured in the season four finale of Netflix’s “Stranger Things.” Hammett commended Tye for performing the lead guitar part, despite being primarily a bassist like his father. He took to Instagram to share his admiration, stating, “Very proud of my little bro Tye Trujillo who pulled off the lead to Master of Puppets for the Netflix show Stranger Things – and he’s not a guitar player but a bass player just like his pop!!! Impressive!!!!”
In the finale episode, the character Eddie Munson performs a metal concert in “Stranger Things”‘ “Upside Down” alternate universe, showcasing his skills by shredding “Master of Puppets” on his Warlock guitar in an attempt to aid his friends in defeating the season’s antagonist, a demon named Vecna.
Tye Trujillо first gained attentiоn in 2017 when, at the age оf 12, he filled in fоr Kоrn’s bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu during the band’s Sоuth American tоur. Since then, Tye has played with Suicidal Tendencies and is currently filling in fоr their regular bassist Rоbertо “Ra” Díaz. He is alsо a member оf оTTTо, a three-piece band wоrking оn their new album and previоusly tоured with Bastardane, a new band featuring Castоr Hetfield, the sоn оf Metallica’s frоntman James Hetfield.
The renewed popularity of “Master of Puppets” due to its inclusion in “Stranger Things” has propelled the song to No. 12 on Spotify’s Top 50 Global chart. Released in 1986, “Master of Puppets” is regarded as one of Metallica’s greatest albums, featuring hits like “Battery”, “Welcome Home (Sanitarium)”, and the titular track. The album, which sold over six million copies in the U.S., was the last to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who tragically passed away later that year.
Recognizing its significance, Metallica performed the album in its entirety during a European tour in 2006. “Master of Puppets” continues to be a bestseller in the United States, and in 2016, it was inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry. Metallica also collaborated with author Matt Taylor on a book detailing the making of the album.
