Three English players—Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and Aaron Ramsdale—have been named to the national team to compete at Euro 2024.
They have been regulars in Gareth Southgate’s choices in the past, and now the trio has completed a triple trιck of tournament call-ups, having been members of the traveling parties for both the Euro 2020 and the 2022 World Cup.
On Sunday, June 16, England will face Serbia in their first major championship defense in 58 years, looking to build on their success from the last European Championship. The following week, they’ll face Denmark, a team they defeated in the Euro 2020 semi-finals, four days later. The following week, they’ll play Slovenia to round out the group stage.
Bukayo scored four goals in seven appearances, including a hat trιck against North Macedonia, as they breezed through the qualification stages undefeated. But Declan was a mainstay in all eight qualifying matches, finding the back of the net three times until calling it quits in March 2023 against Italy.
Declan captained his nation for the first time in March against Belgium, bringing his total of caps to fifty, while Bukayo has won 32 caps and scored eleven goals. The Three Lions have used Aaron on four occasions; his most recent was in September’s match versus Scotland.
From his original 33-man preliminary squad, Southgate has omitted Harry Maguire, James Maddison, and Jack Grealish, along with young players Curtis Jones, Jarell Quansah, Jarrad Branthwite, and James Trafford.
Friday night’s friendly match against Iceland at Wembley will be the last tune-up for the Three Lions before the competition.
