Tye Trujillo, the 12-year-old son of Metallica’s bassist Robert Trujillo, is set to join the rock band Korn on their Latin American up coming
Tye Trujillo, the 12-year-old son of Metallica’s bassist Robert Trujillo, is set to join the rock band Korn on their Latin American tour this month. Korn is taking a bold step in embracing youth by bringing Tye onboard as their temporary bassist.
Tye will be stepping in for Korn’s regular bassist, 47-year-old Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, who is unable to travel due to “unforeseen circumstances.” However, the band assures fans that Arvizu will rejoin them for their US shows next month.
In a Facebook post over the weekend, Korn expressed their sentiments: “We are bummed Fieldy can’t join us on this run but excited to do a few gigs with a young player like Tye.”
Despite his age, Tye Trujillo is already an experienced performer. With his flowing hair and headbanging style, he has been playing bass since he was eight years old in The Helmets, a heavy metal band comprised of young musicians from northern California. His father, Robert Trujillo, joined him as a guest performer when The Helmets rocked the BottleRock Festival in Napa County last year.
Korn, pioneers of the 1990s nu-metal movement, are known for blending hip-hop elements with heavy metal and for frontman Jonathan Davis’s introspective and often despairing lyrics. Their Latin American tour kicks off on April 17 in Bogota and includes three dates in Brazil, as well as shows in Buenos Aires, Santiago, and Lima.
Robert Trujillo, the newest member of Metallica, joined the iconic metal band in 2003 after playing with the thrash metal group Suicidаl Tendencies, further establishing his legacy in the metal world.
