Metallica debuted their 11-minute epic “Inamorata” from the album 72 Seasons live for the first time at Munich’s Olympiastadion. This performance marked the second night of their European tour leg of the M72 tour, supporting their 2023 album.

James Hetfield introduced the song with a unique perspective on their band’s philosophy. “This next song, we have never, ever played live before,” Hetfield said. “In our band, we don’t recognize the word ‘mistake,’ because there are no mistakes, just unique moments that happen. This one is from 72 Seasons – it’s one of my favorites, so I’m gonna like it.”

In a previous track-by-track rundown of the album, Hetfield explained that “Inamorata” is about “having a love affair with misery. A long classic song that screamed out to end the album. Really, really cool riffs in it, really great groove. I love the way it rounds this thing out.”

The M72 tour, which began in April 2023 in Amsterdam, features the band playing two shows in each city with a ‘no-repeat’ policy, providing fans with completely different setlists each night. With the live debut of “Inamorata,” Metallica has now performed nine of the twelve songs from 72 Seasons live. The remaining tracks yet to be played live are “Crown Of Barbed Wire,” “Chasing Light,” and “Room Of Mirrors.”

Hetfield also recently shared on The Metallica Report podcast that he has been “writing lots of music” during the band’s downtime. “I’ve been playing guitar pretty much every day. I have to. It’s like breathing,” he said. “Whether it’s an escape from life or whatever it is, I love my little music room basement. I’ve got a computer, a few guitars, and a little rig set up. It is my soul-nourishing place, to go in there and just play and write. Not so much practicing, it’s just writing.”
