Metallica Marching Band Competition Returns: Will Texas Reign Supreme Once More?
Metallica’s commitment to supporting education continues with the revival of their “For Whom The Band Tolls” contest, offering high school and college marching bands across the nation a chance to secure funds for their music programs.
Open to bands nationwide, the contest presents an opportunity for schools to win substantial cash prizes and musical equipment. Participants are granted permission to use Metallica’s music without royalties, with resources such as marching band charts provided by Hal Leonard.
Last year, Boerne High School from Boerne, Texas, claimed victory with their rendition of “For Whom The Bell Tolls,” incorporating elements of other Metallica classics like “Enter Sandman,” “Fade to Black,” “Master of Puppets,” and “Seek And Destrоy” into their routine.
As the competition returns, alumni from last year’s winning schools may seek to continue their success at the collegiate level. Notably, Eastern New Mexico University emerged victorious in the college category, securing $40,000 in prizes.
