Boerne High School’s marching band struck a chord with Metallica, winning big in a nationwide competition sponsored by the iconic metal band. After delivering a high-octane performance that rocked the stage, the band snagged $15,000 worth of equipment as their prize.
Their electrifying medley of Metallica classics like “Enter Sandman” and “Master of Puppets” stole the show at the inaugural For Whom the Band Tolls competition. Handpicked by Metallica members themselves, Boerne High School shared the limelight with Malverne High School from New York, both clinching the top spot in the medium-sized high school division.
The reward? A generous bounty of instruments and gear promised by Metallica. This January, the anticipation built as the instruments made their way to the eager hands of the Boerne marching band. Their excitement was palpable as they proudly posed alongside their gleaming new equipment, immortalized in a social media post by the Boerne Independent School District.
Gratitude overflowed from the district as they extended their thanks to Metallica for the generous donation, while also showering praise on their victorious marching band.
But Boerne High School wasn’t the only contender in this musical showdown. Bands from across the state showcased their talent, making the competition fierce and unforgettable. Plans are already underway for its return next year, promising another round of epic performances.
Among the notable mentions were the University of Texas at Austin for Division 1 colleges, Edinburg High School representing small high schools, and Austin High School in Sugar Land alongside Lorena High School for large high schools.
Yet, it was Boerne High School’s marching band that emerged triumphant, cementing their status as the best among their peers in a nationwide, Metallica-themed spectacle.
