Castor Hetfield (James Hetfield’s Son) finds it bothersome when people compare his band to Metallica
Castor Hetfield, the drummer for Bastardane and son of Metallica frontman James Hetfield, has expressed his thoughts on the comparisons drawn between his band and his father’s legendary group. In an interview with Savannah Morning News, Castor acknowledged that while the comparisons can be a tad irksome, they are not particularly bothersome. He emphasized that Bastardane is committed to carving out its own identity in the music industry, rather than riding on the coattails of Metallica’s success.
Addressing the issue, Castor stated, “All of us are our father’s sons, mine just happens to be very successful in the industry that we’re in. It’s not bothersome, but it is a little annoying when people try to compare us because obviously we’re our own people and he’s his own person. We’re making our own kind of music.” He also shared his discomfort with seeing his father’s face plastered all over the internet when searching for Bastardane online, reiterating the band’s desire to forge their own path independently.
Castor went on to highlight the diverse musical influences that shape Bastardane’s sound, citing bands like Opeth, Tool, and Corrosion Of Conformity as major inspirations. He emphasized the uniqueness of each band member’s musical background and taste, contributing to the eclectic fusion that characterizes Bastardane’s music. Despite the challenge of defining their genre, Castor asserted that the band’s focus lies in creating authentic and compelling music rather than conforming to genre labels for publicity’s sake.
Looking ahead, Bastardane is gearing up for an exciting tour, with upcoming performances scheduled in various cities across California. Their tour itinerary includes notable venues such as BottleRock 2022 in Napa Valley and The Echo in Los Angeles, showcasing their vibrant and distinctive musical style to audiences around the region.
