The Reason Behind James Hetfield’s Affinity for Smoking Cigars in Non-Smoking Zones
James Hetfield expressed his lack of concern regarding the health risks associated with smoking cigars, elaborating on why he finds enjoyment in lighting up in prohibited places. The Metallica frontman, known for releasing two signature cigars, also delved into the social significance smoking holds for him.
During a recent episode of The Metallica Report, Hetfield responded to inquiries about the impact of cigars on his singing voice, stating, “There’s a lot of people around me that are concerned about that and the health and what not. It has not affected it that I know of.” He added, “I feel that I’m kinda singing the best that I have in a long time and I’m doing my best, and I get to enjoy that as well. So we’ll see.”
He further emphasized the pleasure derived from smoking, mentioning his weekly cigar fellowship gatherings where participants engage in candid conversations and camaraderie. Hetfield shared, “We have a cigar fellowship back home and we get together every Thursday and have a puff, and just get real with each other; you know, check in with each other.”
Describing smoking as a form of meditation, Hetfield highlighted the meditative aspects and the enjoyment derived from the paraphernalia associated with the hobby. Despite acknowledging that smoking is not universally accepted, he expressed appreciation for the rebellious aspect of the activity and its association with personal freedom.
Hetfield concluded by acknowledging that smoking may not be suitable for everyone but emphasized the personal connection and sense of camaraderie it fosters among individuals who share the interest.
