BULLETBOYS frontman Marq Torien revealed in a recent interview with Marko Syrjala of Metal Rules that he’s been collaborating on a new project with METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo. Torien shared that they’ve already recorded a track together, and he’s currently working on finalizing it.
Describing it as “quite an honor,” Torien expressed his admiration for Trujillo, calling him his favorite bass player. He recalled the emotional moment when Trujillo reached out to him for the project, emphasizing how rare it is for him to receive such calls. Despite not knowing each other well initially, Torien praised Trujillo’s down-to-earth nature and passion for music, which led to their collaboration.
When asked about the project’s nаme, Torien mentioned they haven’t decided on one yet. He expressed excitement about the collaboration and highlighted the involvement of Trujillo’s writing partner, Armand Sabal-Lecco. Torien described the music as “very funky” with elements of punk rock and R&B.
Reflecting on his past interactions with METALLICA members, Torien shared fond memories of hаnging out with them in the 1980s. He particularly praised James Hetfield for supporting BULLETBOYS during their early days, recalling Hetfield’s encouragement and attendance at their shows.
In June 2022, BULLETBOYS released the official music video for their single “Holy F*ck” with their new lineup, featuring Torien, guitarist Ira Black, bassist Brad Lang, and drummer Fred Aching. This marked their return after the original lineup fell apart in 2021.
BULLETBOYS, formed in 1988 during the glam metal era in Los Angeles, quickly gained attention with their hard rock-blues fusion sound. Their self-titled debut album achieved commercial success, and they continued to release music until their initial split in 1993.
