Metallica Aims to Extend Grammy Dominance in Best Metal Performance Category
Metallica, a powerhouse in Grammy history, is set to compete for three awards at the 2024 Grammys, with a focus on the coveted Best Metal Performance category. With an impressive track record of eight wins and 21 nominations, the band is looking to not only add to their collection but also strengthen their unparalleled position in this Grammy field.
Their nomination for Best Metal Performance stems from their song “72 Seasons,” the title track of their latest album, which is also vying for a Grammy. A victory in this category would mark Metallica’s seventh win, a feat no other band has achieved, with Tool holding the second position with three wins.
Despite their formidable competition, including releases from Disturbed, Slipknot, Ghost, and Spiritbox, Metallica has proven to be a formidable force. Their nomination history stands at eight, with only two losses, making them accustomed to the winner’s circle.
Interestingly, Metallica, despite their Grammy dominance, does not hold the record for the most nominations in the Best Metal Performance category. That distinction belongs to Megadeth, with 11 nominations but only one win. Slipknot follows closely with nine nominations.
As the 2024 Grammys approach, Metallica faces tough competition, but given their track record and familiarity with victory, they remain strong contenders. The results will be unveiled during a live telecast on CBS on February 4, 2024.
