METALLICA’s James Hetfield Shares His Preferred Season of the Year

On the 22nd episode of “The Metallica Report,” a recently launched podcast providing weekly insider updates on all things METALLICA, James Hetfield disclosed his favorite season when prompted by the hosts. The discussion, transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET, saw Hetfield expressing a fondness for spring and fall, citing the enjoyable weather during these periods. He reminisced about the beauty of fall in Colorado, where the leaves change to golden hues, and the perfect weather creates a serene atmosphere. Spring, with its signs of life, blossoming flowers, and the presence of newborn animals, also holds a special place in his heart as it symbolizes vitality.

Reflecting on his decision to relocate from the San Francisco area, where he and METALLICA had been based for 40 years, to Vail in 2016, Hetfield explained that he felt disconnected from the Bay Area. He cited dissatisfaction with the attitudes of the people, describing an elitist attitude that made him uncomfortable. The move allowed him to escape what he perceived as constant conflict and regain a sense of peace.

In August 2022, TMZ reported James Hetfield’s divorce from his wife of over two decades, Francesca Hetfield. The couple, parents to daughters Cali and Marcella, and son Castor, still maintains contact as they navigate co-parenting responsibilities.

Hetfield’s personal struggles, including a stint in rehab in 2019, impacted METALLICA’s “WorldWired” tour in Australia and New Zealand. The musician had previously sought rehabilitation in 2001, addressing issues related to alcohol abuse and other addictions. Despite these challenges, METALLICA persevered and released their 12th studio album, “72 Seasons,” in April through their Blackened Recordings label. Produced by Greg Fidelman with contributions from Hetfield and METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich, the album marked their first full-length collection of new material since 2016’s “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct.”
