METALLICA Acknowledges Batman Theme Influence in “Shadows Follow”

If you’ve ever listened to Metallica’s track “Shadows Follow” and thought, “Isn’t that riff from the Batman theme song?” – you’re not alone. Many fans noticed the similarity, and now Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has confirmed that it’s no coincidence.

In an interview with Total Guitar, Hammett addressed the observation, stating, “That’s really funny [that fans noticed], because we called that riff ‘The Batman Riff,’ and I know exactly what you are talking about.” Perhaps, if Adam West were still alive, he could have made a guest appearance on the track?

Hammett delved further into the band’s diverse influences, mentioning the inspiration drawn from various sources, including television shows. “One thing I noticed from watching AC/DC at Power Trip is that AC/DC is actually a bunch of different bands. AC/DC is a boogie-woogie blues bar band, a rock band, a hard-rock band, a heavy metal band. They are all those types of bands rolled into one. It goes from ‘Baby, please don’t go’ to Back In Black,” he explained.

For those who may have missed the connection between the two riffs, take a listen below. Once you hear it, you’ll never be able to unhear it.
