Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Epiphone reveal the “Greeny” 1959 Les Paul Standard Guita
Metallica’s Kirk Hammett is sharing his beloved “Greeny” guitar with the public. The metal legend has introduced the Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Kirk Hammett “Greeny” 1959 Les Paul Standard, inspired by his own Gibson version.
Unlike the limited edition Gibson Custom Shop “Greeny” introduced earlier this year with a hefty price tag of $19,999, the Epiphone version is more budget-friendly at $1,499.
“I think Greeny is a guitar that people gravitate towards, and this is a great opportunity for more players to experience the spirit of Greeny,” Hammett said about the lower price point of the Epiphone version.
This guitar is based on Hammett’s highly regarded 1959 “Greeny,” previously owned by Fleetwood Mac’s Peter Green and later wielded by Thin Lizzy’s Gary Moore.
According to a press release, “The Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Kirk Hammett ‘Greeny’ 1959 Les Paul Standard represents a new era of premium features for Epiphone, becoming Epiphone’s first production with the world-famous Gibson open-book headstock, including Gibson pickups and electronics, single-coil tapping, and a Kahler tremolo.”
You can purchase the guitar directly from the Epiphone website, where more information about the instrument can be found.
Hammett has tested the new Epiphone “Greeny” during Metallica’s “M72 World Tour.” Hopefully, he’ll hold onto it and not angrily toss it across the stage like he did with his purple ESP guitar last week before taking a heavy fall during Metallica’s performance in Detroit.
That Detroit performance concluded Metallica’s 2023 run, but the legendary metal band will be back in action in 2024 with new legs in the U.S. and Europe for the “M72 World Tour.” Tickets for their upcoming shows are available here.
“Greeny” follows the debut of Hammett and Epiphone’s signature 1979 Flying V model last month.
