Guitarist Kirk Hammett experiencing a significant fall onstage during the band’s Detroit show
Guitarist Kirk Hammett faced a challenging moment during Metallica’s “M72 World Tour,” experiencing a significant fall onstage during the band’s Detroit show on Sunday, November 12th. The incident, captured in video footage, unfolded right after the conclusion of “Moth Into Flame.”
In the footage, the renowned guitarist can be seen tripping and landing forcefully on the stage. Following a brief moment on the ground, Hammett stands up and vents his frustration by forcefully hurling his purple ESP guitar across the stage towards his guitar technician. Expressing his displeasure, he vocalizes a couple of profanities while making his exit from the stage.
Despite the setback, Hammett swiftly regains composure both mentally and physically, returning to the stage to perform the next song, “FigҺt Fire with Fire,” and successfully completing the remainder of the set.
This mishap was not the only instance of Hammett facing challenges during the “M72 World Tour.” Earlier performances, including the band’s appearance at the Power Trip festival in Indio, California, witnessed Hammett stumbling over the intro to “Nothing Else Matters.” However, in those situations, he managed to humorously acknowledge the mistake, restarting the song without significant issue.
The Detroit concert marked Metallica’s final performance of 2023 on their “M72 World Tour.” The tour is set to resume next year with additional legs in Europe and North America. Tickets for the band’s 2024 shows are currently available.
