Drake stops boycotting Grammys, submits nominations for new album

After 2 years of boycotting the Grammys for non-transparent reasons, rapper Drake decided to return to this prestigious award.

According to Billboard sources, Drake nominated Her Loss for the Album of the Year and Best Rap Album categories at the 2024 Grammy Awards. In addition, he also submitted nominations for the songs Rich Flex and Spin Bout U in the categories of Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Rhythm Performance.

Drake could also receive further nominations for collaborations on Travis Scott’s Meltdown and Young Thug’s Oh U Want. Both are registered nominations for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance.

Drake’s nomination for the 2024 Grammys made the audience extremely surprised when previously, the male rapper had vehemently condemned this awards ceremony. He even withdrew his nominations for the 2022 awards and asked the Academy to remove his name from the final nomination list.

Drake’s boycott of the Grammys began in 2020, after The Weeknd did not receive any nominations for his album After Hours. This incident caused controversy when After Hours was always rated by critics as one of the best albums of the year.

“This is a good opportunity for someone to stand up and organize a new awards ceremony. We can build it together and pass it on to the next generations,” Drake shared in 2020, “I gave that The Weeknd could absolutely win Album of the Year or Song of the Year. But with a series of accusations like now, things will never go the way we think.”

Although he did not speak up about the reason for submitting nominations for the 2024 Grammy, this move can be considered an action to stop the 1986-born star’s boycott of the awards ceremony.
